Laser Photonics Corporation (LPC), a developer of industrial laser systems for cleaning and material processing applications, recently announced its commendable performance at the Rapid Innovation Workshop during the 2024 NCMS Commercial Technologies for Maintenance Activities (CTMA) Partners Meeting. This event, held in Providence, RI, brought together over 100 leaders from government, industry, and academia with the aim of fostering rapid sustainment solutions for the warfighter.
Overview of the CTMA Partners Meeting
The CTMA Partners Meeting is an annual event organized by the National Center for Manufacturing Sciences (NCMS). It serves as a platform for collaboration among stakeholders from various sectors, focusing on maintenance and sustainment challenges faced by the Department of Defense (DOD). The 2024 meeting featured a comprehensive agenda that included engaging speakers, informative panels, and emerging technologies. One of the most anticipated segments of the meeting was the Rapid Innovation Workshop, now in its second year. During the workshop, participants were divided into teams and tasked with addressing one of four scenarios:
Aircraft Battle Damage and Repair
Local Parts Manufacturing
Advanced Decision Support Using Data Streams
Predictive Maintenance for Electrical Components
Each team had 45 minutes to develop a solution for their chosen scenario and prepare a brief presentation. Following the presentations, participants voted on the best idea, excluding their own team's entry. This year's winning group, a team of 23 members including Laser Photonics, developed a solution for the "Expeditionary Aircraft Battle Damage Assessment and Repair" scenario. The team was led by NCMS Business Development Manager Marc Sharp. Their innovative approach earned them not only recognition but also a $25,000 award from NCMS to develop a proposal for a CTMA collaboration based on their solution.
Wayne Tupuola, CEO of Laser Photonics, expressed his pride in the company's participation and success in the competition. "For Laser Photonics, the Warfighter Solutions Competition at the NCMS CTMA Partners Meeting was a valuable opportunity to present our next-generation, sustainable laser solutions at the DOD-wide forum," he said. "We are extremely proud to be part of this team and receive the award alongside other industry-leading developers."
Networking and Demonstrations
Besides the workshop, the Partners Meeting featured two evening receptions that facilitated networking and showcased tabletop demonstrations by 20 industry innovators. These exhibitors shared detailed insights into their technologies and demonstrated how they could address current challenges faced by the DOD. Some of the companies exhibiting at the event included:
Ametek Spectro Scientific
Andromeda Systems Incorporated
BlastOne International
Boston Engineering
Brighton Science
Cumulus Digital Systems
DIT-MCO
Edlore Inc.
Element 119 LLC
GVS-RPB

Sponsorship and Collaboration
The 2024 Partners Meeting was made possible with sponsorship from several organizations, including Laser Photonics, Boston Engineering, Naval Systems Incorporated (NSI), and Solvus Global. These sponsors played a crucial role in supporting the event and enabling the productive exchange of ideas and solutions.
The NCMS CTMA Partners Meeting is an exemplary forum that bridges the gap between government, industry, and academia, fostering collaboration and innovation. The Rapid Innovation Workshop, in particular, highlights the potential for rapid development and integration of solutions to pressing sustainment challenges. Laser Photonics' commendable performance underscores the importance of such platforms in driving technological advancements that benefit the defense sector.
