The Tesla analysis captures the essential tension perfectly. Shareholders approved the package because they see TSLA as funding a portolio of moonshots, not buying a car company. The Optimus claims sound wild but dismissing Musk has historically been expensive. What matters is whether the automotive cash flow can sustain the R&D burn rate while margins compress under competition from BYD and other Chinese EV makers.
