Market Recap: A Record-Breaking Day with a Hint of Optimism

The stock market continues to ride the wave of optimism as the S&P 500 (+0.3%) and Nasdaq Composite (+0.1%) hit record highs today. The Dow Jones Industrial Average (+1.1%) outperformed, driven by its limited exposure to mega-cap tech stocks, which saw some profit-taking. The Russell 2000 (+2.0%) and S&P Mid Cap 400 (+3.5%) also shined, signaling a rotation into small- and mid-cap stocks.
Treasury yields fell as rate cut expectations gained momentum, with the 2-year note yield settling at 3.69% and the 10-year note yield at 4.24%. The CME FedWatch Tool now assigns a 97.9% probability of a 25-basis-point rate cut at the September FOMC meeting.
